You Can’t Say THAT! Cover Letter No-Nos

No, I’m not talking about four-letter words. Actually, they’d be refreshing compared to some of the high-falutin’ language many cover letter writers adopt as their own. I’m talking about those “professional” words and phrases that send readers straight to sleep. How are these for snore-starters: “exigency to restrict dissemination of my heretofore closely held professional abilities?”

Avoid using Business, Military, or Industry specific acronyms. You may know what they mean, but the person reading your cover letter may not! Many times it’s a person in HR who is reviewing Cover Letters and Resumes & they may not have a clue on industry specific jargon.
Keep things simple and stick to the point of bringing what you got to the table. How can you impact the organization’s bottom line.
